The Publik Kitchen
Design 4 Social Intervention /
Dudley Square, Boston, MA
"The Design Studio for Social Intervention is a creativity lab for the social justice sector. It designs and prototypes alternative ways to approach and address complex social problems, including exploring unusual solutions that's very existence help the system see new options for solving stubborn problems.
One example of this work is the Public Kitchen. As public infrastructures--hospitals, water, schools, transportation, etc--are privatized, the Public Kitchen imagines moving in the reverse direction. It's an installation designed to help us realize that the ways in which public infrastructures can improve the quality of our lives is still a work in progress."

In my participation with the Design Studio for Social intervention in Roxbury, MA, I produced a series of architectural renderings to provide the studio's visitors for the 2012 Roxbury Open Studios, a preview of what this new public-park typology might look like in their neighborhood. The renderings produced, use different settings found within Dudley Square, providing a variety of different spatial formats for the Open Studios visitors and participants to see and to critique and engage in dialogue for what a community space centered around the cultural production of food might look, and feel like in their own neighborhood.
